Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from the Gunners for a fee of £35million over the summer.
The England international could get a hostile reception as he travels with the Reds to face Arsenal at the Emirates tonight (7.45pm).
After a slow start to his Anfield career, Oxlade-Chamberlain has picked up his form and put in a promising display in the 4-0 win away to Bournemouth last Sunday.
But Sky Sports pundit Merson reckons Oxlade-Chamberlain is showing what he is really capable of, however he needs to have a regular position from game to game.
“When I look at Ox, I followed his career from Southampton to Arsenal, I still don’t know where he plays. I don’t know his best position,” Merson told Sky Sports’ The Debate.
“Now you have to put him in the centre of midfield and say ‘You’re playing there’.
“And he needs to be left there for 10 games.
“He plays one game there, and then wing-back and then on the wing.
“He just needs a position.”
Liverpool are currently fourth in the table and a win tonight will leave them just a point behind Chelsea, who face Everton tomorrow (12.30pm).
