PS Plus vs Xbox Games with Gold August 2018 - The BEST month ever for free games? | Gaming | Entertainment

PS Plus and Xbox Games with Gold freebies have been announced for the month of August.

And it’s a high profile month for free games, because the August 2018 Games with Gold releases include Forza Horizon 2 and For Honor on Xbox One.

The Forza Horizon 2 Anniversary Edition is available now, while For Honor joins the scheme on August 16.

Xbox 360 games, meanwhile, include Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and Dead Space 3.

Over on , the free PlayStation Plus games include Mafia 3 and Dead by Daylight.

Then there are bonus games like Knowledge is Power and Here They Lie, not to mention Bound by Flame and Serious Sam 3 on PS3, plus Draw Slasher and Space Hulk on Vita.

The upcoming releases will be available at midday on August 7.

In one of the best months ever for free games, we pit Xbox Games with Gold against PlayStation Plus for August 2018.

Mafia 3: “After years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for.

“When his surrogate family, the black mob, is wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through the Mafioso responsible.”

Dead by Daylight: “Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught, tortured and killed.

“Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. The Killer plays in first-person and is more focused on their prey.

“The Survivors’ goal in each encounter is to escape the Killing Ground without getting caught by the Killer – something that sounds easier than it is, especially when the environment changes every time you play.”

For Honor: “Carve a path of destruction through an intense, believable battlefield in For Honor.

“Choose your warrior amongst a variety of bold Knights, brutal Vikings and deadly Samurai, each with their own weapon set and play style.

“For Honor offers an engaging single-player story mode and thrilling multiplayer. Wield the weight of your weapon and feel the power of every strike through this system, putting you in total control.”

Forza Horizon 2: “A world of beauty and freedom awaits in Forza Horizon 2!

“Explore a beautiful open world with dynamic day, night and spectacular weather effects in stunning 1080p. Drive 200+ cars in epic road trips through a massive, wide-open world of freedom.

“Action-packed driving gameplay rewards you for showing off your style as well as your skill. Instantly connect with friends online with no lobbies and no waiting.”

Kicking things off for Microsoft is Forza Horizon 2, which has a hugely impressive metascore of 86%. The visuals, open-world driving and seamless multiplayer all receive the highest praise.

It’s backed up by Ubisoft’s melee multiplayer game For Honor, which despite suffering a few issues at launch, still managed to score 79%.

Things aren’t quite as rosy for PS4 players, as Dead by Daylight only manages to score 64%, while Mafia 3 fares only slightly better with 68%.

Both games have their strengths, of course, with Mafia 3 receiving high praise for its story. Dead by Daylight, meanwhile, is a little rough around the edges, but it does have some great ideas that translate into exciting multiplayer matches.

While it’s a great month for free games on both platforms, it’s Microsoft’s Xbox One that scores the victory in August 2018.

For Honor has come a long way since launch, and a fresh injection of players should give the online combat a huge boost. Forza Horizon 2, on the other hand, is a bonafide classic, and one of the best racing games of this generation.
