A morbidly obese man whose weight spiralled out of control as he battled drug addiction has shed nearly 200lbs after undergoing a gastric bypass surgery.
Steven Assanti, 33, from Warwick, Rhode Island, became one of the most controversial stars of TLC‘s My 600lb Life when he appeared on the show with his 605lb brother, Justin, in April last year.
Cameras followed Steven, who then weighed 734lbs, as he was kicked out of the weight-loss programme and forced into rehab to treat an addiction to painkillers. By the end of the two-part special, Steven had lost a total of 57lbs.
However last night’s catch-up special revealed that after the show Steven piled on weight and tipped the scales at more than 750lbs. But this time he had more success and lost 150lbs after show doctors finally agreed to carry out the gastric bypass surgery he had long desired.
