Klopp shocked Liverpool fans with his team selection for the game at Anfield, leaving Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino on the bench.
The Reds dominated the game and went ahead through a stunning Salah goal in the first half.
With the score still at 1-0, Klopp chose to substitute the Premier League’s leading scorer to bring on Firmino.
Cuco Martina was playing at left-back for Everton on the day and Stelling believes he would have been relieved to see the Egyptian go off.
“I’m sure during the game it (the team selection) didn’t get any better,” he said.
“I’m sure I saw Cuco Martina go over and hug him (Jurgen Klopp) when he took Salah off at 1-0, didn’t he?”
Within 10 minutes of Salah going off, Everton had equalised through a Wayne Rooney penalty.
Despite dominating large parts of the game, Liverpool were unable to add another and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Stelling went on to describe the decision to leave Coutinho and Firmino out as “inexplicable”.
“Everybody knew that Everton would sit deep and that Coutinho and Firmino were the type of players who might open up a defence,” he added.
“It’s pretty inexplicable that they didn’t start.
“Sam would have been doing cartwheels in the dressing room.”
