Arthritis pain symptoms: Joint condition signs include a walking limp


Arthritis is a common condition that affects people of all ages, including young children, said the NHS.

The condition causes pain and inflammation in the joints, making movement difficult and restrictive.

Common arthritis symptoms include having warm, red skin over the affected joints, and inflammation in and around the joints.

You could reveal your risk of arthritis by analysing the way you walk, it’s been revealed.

People that walk with a slight limp could be at risk of arthritis symptoms, it’s been claimed.

The limp could be caused by arthritis of the hip, said Washington University Physicians.

The limp may extend to difficulty walking on occasion, or simply having a limp at intermittent times, it said.

“Arthritis is one of the most common causes of pain in the hip,” said the university.

“Arthritis is a progressive disorder, which means that it typically starts gradually and gets worse with time.

“Regardless of the type of arthritis, symptoms of hip arthritis include difficulty walking or walking with a limp.

“Any type of arthritis can involve more than one joint in the body, so a person with osteoarthritis of the hands may develop the condition in the hip as well.

“Rheumatoid arthritis and lupus typically affect both hips at the same time, while osteoarthritis and psoriatic arthritis may occur in one hip but not the other.”

Arthritis patients could also have a stiffness in the hip, or have a limited range of movement, it added.

Other hip arthritis symptoms include a pain in the hip that usually gets worse in the morning, or a pain that radiates to the groin and outer thighs.

If you suspect you have arthritis of the hip, you should speak to a doctor, it warned.

The most common types of arthritis in the UK are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Patients could reduce arthritis pain by regularly exercising, said the NHS.

Although you may not feel like exercising as arthritis can be painful, it may help to prevent pain from returning in the long-term.

All adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity every week.

Combining a healthy balanced diet with the right exercise plan for your condition can help you to lose weight, and put less stress on your joints.
