ARSENAL 2-0 EVERTON

FT: Well, Arsenal weren’t at their best but a moment of pure quality from Alexandre Lacazette was enough to break Everton’s spirit and the second killed Marco Silva’s side off.

Unai Emery follows Thursday’s Europa League win with another in the Premier League and a welcome clean sheet. On to the Carabao Cup!

92: Arsenal win a corner deep into stoppage-time, can they put the icing on the cake? Nope. Michael Keane clears and the ball is back with Cech in the blink of an eye.

90: Arsenal really are doing their best to concede with Xhaka putting Cech under pressure with a needless under-hit backpass. Mustafi then concedes a free-kick within range but Sigurdsson can’t trouble the net.

Four minutes of added time to be played.

87: Woodwork! It’s not happening for Everton today. They are having a go late with Lucas Digne continuing his run forward and clipping an effort against the corner of the goal. Arsenal hanging onto their clean sheet.

85: Everton crossing terribly with Richarlison and Bernard both failing to get the ball anywhere near the penalty spot where Cenk Tosun is waiting angrily.

83: Gylfi Sigurdsson fancies his chances from distance but his long-ranger takes a deflection behind for a corner. It’s taken short and Arsenal clear.

80: Aaron Ramsey is replaced by Danny Welbeck for the final ten minutes.

77: Arsenal are doing a professional job of keeping the ball and taking any late sting out of their visitors.

74: Ouch! Now what’s happened here. Richarlison is down clutching his head while Mustafi is down clutching his gentleman’s region… I think you can probably guess what happened. Both are up on their feet.

71: Take a bow, Petr Cech. He’s getting my Man of the Match award. OK, he might not be great with his feet but there’s few with better stop-stopping abilities. He’s just stopped a certain goal as Richarlison glances a Sigurdsson free-kick on target.

Everton make a double change with Cenk Tosun and Bernard on for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Theo Walcott – who is given a nice round of applause.

68: Alex iwobi comes on to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who looks a little disappointed to be leaving the action. He knows there are more goals to be had.

65: Arsenal v Everton is now the highest scoring Premier League fixture with 153 goals going above Liverpool vs Tottenham with 152 goals. That’s one for you stats nerds…

63: It’s turned into a training exercise for Arsenal now as Everton offer no response whatsoever. They look a beaten side.

60: Marco Silva is just shaking his head on the sidelines. He knows the second was unjust, but he also knows that his side wasted countless chances to take the lead.

ARSENAL 2-0 EVERTON | AUBAMEYANG

58: Everton unravelling, but were they unlucky to concede a second?!

Mesut Ozil simply walks through the Everton defence before playing a sinfully poor pass to Aaron Ramsey, whose makeshift back-hell finds Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to convert with ease.

The replays show that Aubameyang was at least a couple of yards offside.

ARSENAL 1-0 EVERTON | LACAZETTE

55: What was I saying about Arsenal fans not enjoying what they were seeing? Well, they bloody loved what they just witnessed from Alexandre Lacazette.

Aaron Ramsey prods the ball over to the French international, who shifts the ball to his right before curling an absolute stunner into the top right-hand corner.

One chance all game from Arsenal and it’s finished. Everton have countless chances and none of them taken.

54: Arsenal fans don’t like what they’re seeing because Everton have bossed things since the break. The Toffees are wining the second balls and creating all the openings.

I wonder how long before Unai Emery makes a change.

51: Arsenal respond immediately with a corner of their own as Walcott comes back to tackle Ozil. Xhaka drifts it across for Ramsey, whose volley is smothered by Pickford. Very Paul Scholes-esque indeed.

48: Good start from the Toffees, who win themselves a corner. It’s about their sixth today and not one has threatened the Arsenal goal.

ARSENAL 0-0 EVERTON

45: And we’re back underway folks. No changes from either camp over the break – but will we see a different Arsenal? They need to raise it a few notches to collect three points today.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Sarah: Even as an Arsenal fan I can’t believe Jon Moss has kept Lucas Torreira on the pitch – there’s letting game flow and letting players get away with murder!

Kim: Petr Cech gets so much criticism for not being able to play from the back like Unai Emery wants. But he is one powerful shot stopper. He has kept Everton at bay.

Garrett: Richarlison is the best watch in the EPL. People laughed at the price-tag, but now it looks like it’s between him and James Maddison for the best signings.

ARSENAL 0-0 EVERTON

HT: Not a great deal of quality on display here, which is surprising given the starting XI’s. Everton have enjoyed the better chances with Petr Cech make two or three good saves.

47: Marcos Silva isn’t a happy manager on the sidelines. He thinks Torreira, who is already on a yellow, should be sent off for a late lunge on Digne. Jonathan Moss isn’t interested.

45: Thrilling stuff. Moments after Kenny JUST stops Monreal from firing at the back post Sigurdsson releases Richarlison, who sidesteps Mustafi and draws a good save from Cech. Three minutes of added time.

44: Woodwork! Now that would have been quite something. Monreal’s deep cross from the left nearly sneaks over Jordan Pickford and into the net. Instead, it clips off the crossbar and hacked clear.

43: Arsenal ending the half on the front-foot with Lacazette collecting the ball from Ramsey before Gueye arrives on the scene to disposes the French forward before he could shoot.

40: That’s vintage Walcott. Sigurdsson sets him free with a pin-point ball beyond Monreal but the former Arsenal star can’t lift the ball over Cech, who makes an important stop.

So Mustafi was the Arsenal centre-back injured earlier, but it’s Sokratis who leaves the field with a dead leg. Ron Holding replaces him.

38: Arsenal are struggling to build any momentum with everyone taking a few too many seconds and a few too many touches in possession. Quicker is the order of the day. Oh, and Mustafi appears to have shaken off the knock.

36: There’s a lengthy pause in play as Mustafi goes down clutching his knee. He looks in real pain after an innocuous 50/50 with Calvert-Lewin. Not sure if he’ll feature again today.

34: Rapid break from… Ozil! I couldn’t believe it either. He wins the race with Zouma but Keane prevents the German from finding an unmarked Lacazette at the back post.

32: I think that’s called a ‘good foul’ from Sokratis after Xhaka gifts the ball to Walcott deep in Arsenal territory. Everton have a free-kick to the right side of the penalty area with Gylfi Sigurdsson standing over it…

Lucas Digne goes instead and forces an essential stop from Cech, who palms it over for a corner. Cleared.

30: Richarlison spins Sokratis, who committed himself and fires one wide. Quite a similar effort to the one he scored against Wolves on the opening day of the season.

27: There’s no real atmosphere inside the Emirates this afternoon. All that can be heard is the players and two managers barking orders.

There’s a slight rise in volume as Lucas Digne is booked for stopping Aubameyang on the break after a failed training ground set-piece routine.

24: Everton win themselves another corner – that’s their fourth of the afternoon – and for the third time It’s swung straight into the arms of Petr Cech. The visitors need more from their set-pieces today. Gotta make ‘em count!

21: Great effort from Richarlison. He muscles Bellerin off the ball far too easily before fizzing a decent strike at Cech from around 20-yards.

The resulting corner nearly sneaks in above Cech, who parries it away for another that he claims.

18: Aubameyang drives inside before firing straight at Keane, who has a snazzy bandage around his head this afternoon. It won’t catch on.

15: Booked! Torreira is a little too eager to make his presence known and bundles into Sigurdsson. I suspect Xhaka will join him in the referee’s notebook at some point.

13: What a save! Jordan Pickford is quick to react to Monreal’s first time effort and scrambles the ball away one-handed. There’s a real frantic feel about this one – probably because both sides can’t keep a clean sheet for love nor money.

10: Offside! Walcott, who’s looked bright in the early stages, pinches the ball of Xhaka and sends a wicked cross into the six-yard box. Richarlison looks to poke beyond Cech but he’s flagged for offside.

8: The attacking Monreal is lurking inside the penalty area but Zouma clears Aubameyang’s cross and it strikes the Spaniard on the arm.

5: Lacazette and Aubameyang are looking topple the pressure on young Kenny at right back in the absence of Seamus Coleman. They manage to win a corner but Richarlison rises highest to clear.

3: That should have sent Everton fans into ecstasy. The Toffees might not get a better chance all afternoon as Theo Walcott goes through one-on-one with Petr Cech but mystifyingly attempts to sidestep him instead of convert. Arsenal off the hook.

ARSENAL 0-0 EVERTON

1: Right, we’re underway here at a sunny Emirates Stadium. I’m predicting an insane number of goals today. Anything could happen but a quick reminder that

Everton have not won in 24 visits to Arsenal in all competitions, a run that stretches back to January 1996.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

John: The Xhaka/Torreira pivot could be a thing of dream, Ramsey masterclass, the Laca/Auba partnership and if Ozil turns up then Everton (and most other teams in the league) are in big trouble. Unreal line-up that.

Ben: Everton have spent a quarter of a billion pounds the last two seasons on too many nice guys, and not enough number nines. Gap to Arsenal won’t close if that trend continues.

Kev: Finally, Torreira to start first PL game. Tosun benched with Calvert-Lewin preferred up front. Richarlison returns after suspension. Marco Silva looking to exploit Arsenal defence with pace.

EUROPEAN TROPHY OVER TOP-FOUR FINISH

15:45: That’s according to Unai Emery, who says he would take Europa League glory over a top-four finish.

Emery replaced Arsene Wenger in the Emirates Stadium dugout over the summer and has been charged with changing Arsenal’s fortunes.

The 43-year-old won three successive Europa League titles during his tenure at Sevilla and said he would prioritise lifting the trophy once more.

Asked how he would prefer to qualify for the Champions League, Emery replied: “One choice? For me, the Europa League is very important because it is one title and I think for us, every title is the best way, the best performance, the best future.”

THEO…

15:40: Everton winger Theo Walcott thinks Everton are fully capable of reaching Arsenal’s level – providing they turn draws into wins.

“You have to move on quickly, football comes thick and fast,” the former Arsenal star told the BBC. “Come the weekend, if you work hard all week then the good things will come. Only time will tell if the style of what we are doing is the right way going forward but I believe it is.

“We can be at the level of Arsenal and better. We just need to start turning draws into wins.”

15:35: Michael Keane and Richarlison returned to the Everton side for the trip to Arsenal, with the pair having missed the previous three games.

Tom Davies also came in as Marco Silva made three changes at the Emirates Stadium – with former Arsenal man Theo Walcott keeping his place.

Petr Cech returned in goal with Hector Bellerin, Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette all recalled as Lucas Torreira was handed his first Premier League start.
